Project Z Title Sequence

Project type

2D Animated Title Sequence

Date

Jan 2020

Role

Animation Direction, Illustration, Comp, Edit

ITV commissioned Bait Studio to create an animated title sequence for the second series of their award-winning children's reality-TV game show, Project Z, set in a zombie apocalypse. After several pitches, my concept was chosen. Drawing inspiration from popular video games like The Last of Us, I envisioned the show set in the near future, where an overgrown, abandoned world is now home to a former survivor from the first series, searching for new recruits to join the cause.

I opted for a pulp comic-style aesthetic, beginning with a detailed storyboard before recreating each shot in 3D as a reference. From there, I meticulously traced and illustrated every frame, adding intricate detail to the sequence. One particularly complex section even involved frame-by-frame animation of a 3D character leaping over a fence!

The title sequence was well received and continued to be used in subsequent seasons. Additionally, I supplied a full graphic package that included lower thirds, maps, and various in-game elements.
